Land Rover has identified a potential concern associated with the engagement of the child lock. The left hand rear door can be opened from the inside of the vehicle when it is believed that the child lock is engaged.
Customers could also experience child lock disengagement after repeat cycling of the exterior handle. Two interfacing components could jam, disengaging the child lock on the left-hand rear latch only. The subsequent investigation identified the issue on the left-hand rear door latch ALR9787 with a manufacturing date code between 28112 and 37132. Only the left-hand rear door latch is affected, as it is a consequential failure due to the incorrect setting of the hot-melt riveting machine within the component manufacturing process.
You are requested to inspect the date code on the left hand rear door latch of all Freelander vehicles, within the below VIN range. The date code is located within the door latch throat and can be inspected without removing
the door latch from the vehicle. The last digit of the manufacturing date code indicates the year of manufacture of the component. Only those door latches that end with a 2 and the first four digits of the date code are within the range of 2811 and 3713 are affected by this concern.
If the date code on the left hand rear door latch is between 28112 and 37132 the door latch must be replaced and a new water shedder (plastic sheet) installed.
